Since the Fourth of July is around the corner, how about a lovely appetizer that requires little prep, less clean up, and feeds a lot? I love a good puff pastry recipe, and these cheesy pigs in a blanket just scream summer! Also, they just happen to taste best when dipped in Mama Jess Organic Ketchup!
Heres how to make them:
First things first, unroll a tube of croissant dough (I used this instead of puff pastry this time, just a bit easier to work with!) and slice each of the croissant triangles in half lengthwise. Lay them out on a flat surface. Oh yeah, don’t forget to pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees F.
Next, let’s cheese ’em. I cut slices of Colby jack cheese into quarters and I made a few of them only a little cheesy (only one quarter slice on the puff pastry ), while the rest I made double cheesy (two quarter slices on the puff pastry, not pictured, sorry). Either way, they are delectable.
Next, plop a lil smokie at the top of the puff pastry (I cannot believe that there is a product called a “lil smokie” and I have to write that with total seriousness). Now, on your mark…get set…ROLL! (Aka roll the lil smokie, cheese, and puff pastry from the wider edge down to the pointy tip. Place them on a parchment or silicone-lined baking sheet and keep rolling!
Bake for about 11-14 minutes, or until the perfect golden brown is covering the croissant. These will go SO fast at whatever summer celebration you take them to.
I couldn’t even take photos without my brother putting his hand in!
Hope everyone is having a fabulous start to the summer!
Xoxo, Claire and the Mamas at Mama Jess
